An eConsult is an electronic version of a "curbside consult" where a Primary Care Provider can ask for clinical guidance from a Dartmouth-Hitchcock Specialist. The eConsult model was launched in 2015 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock.
In June 2017, the model was expanded to Primary Care Providers outside of the D-H system with the first specialty available being Psychiatry. Future expansion to other specialties is planned. Presently, this program is available to any Primary Care Practice in New Hampshire or Vermont that is interested in participating.
How does it work?
Using an online HIPAA-compliant platform, a Primary Care Provider (PCP) can submit a clinical question using a templated form to a Dartmouth-Hitchcock Psychiatrist. The Psychiatrist will review all information provided and send their recommendations back to the PCP within 3 business days.
