About the Initiative
In 2005, John Collins, CEO, Elizabeth Stanton, Regional Risk Management, and Barry Smith MD, Chair Emeritus, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, identified the need for a system-wide three-year clinical improvement project in obstetrics.
Barbara Fildes, RN, MS, CNM, Director of the Department of OB/GYN, Division of Midwives and Nurse Practitioners, 1994-2005, was asked to join Barry Smith in leading this effort. The team expanded to include Vicki Flanagan RN, MS, known to many obstetric and neonatal staff in Vermont and New Hampshire through the Regional Program for Women's and Children's Health, and David Turner MD, board certified in family medicine and currently completing a residency in obstetrics and gynecology.
This initiative has now expanded well beyond the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Clinic and Medical Center to include many other hospitals in Vermont and New Hampshire.
