Barbara Fildes, RN, MS, CNM
Barbara served as Director, Division of Midwives and Nurse Practitioners in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at DHMC from 1994-2005. This division was comprised of seventeen CNMs and APRNs who cared for patients at five sites. She worked to establish roles for nurse practitioners in urogynecology, gynecological oncology, and reproductive endocrinology/infertility.
She has been a member of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology's Executive Council, the DHMC Credentials Committee, and the DHMC Domestic Violence Task Force, and has served on many organization-wide and community committees.
Her areas of focus have been the growth and development of midwives and nurse practitioners, collaborative practice models, risk management strategies, QA/QI in obstetrics, credentialing and clinical privileges, and CNMs/NPs as educators of medical students and residents.
Barbara is an assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at The Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth and has received three Excellence in Teaching awards from Dartmouth medical students and ob/gyn residents. Barbara is serving a three-year term as Region I Representative to the Board of Directors of the American College of Nurse Midwives, representing the six New England states.
