The Dermatopathology Service at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center provides a full range of diagnostic services to facilitate treatment of skin disorders. The Dermatopathology service receives and processes specimens from a variety of sources, including DHMC inpatients as well as patients from outpatient dermatology clinics, clinics of family practice, and regional hospitals in the New Hampshire and Vermont. The Dermatopathology service also receives specimens from patients who have had initial diagnoses but need consultation or second opinion review. The diagnostic capabilities cover the entire range of skin diseases and tumors, including melanocytic lesions, cutaneous soft tissue and lymphocytic tumors, inflammatory skin diseases and alopecia.
In addition to evaluation by conventional histology, a variety of specialized immunological (immunohistochemistry and direct immunofluorescence) and molecular diagnostic techniques are available. Our goal is to deliver prompt services and provide diagnostic expertise related to the pathology of skin disorders for referring physicians.
