Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology

The Section of Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology provides consultations on inpatient and ambulatory patients with any drug-related problem including adverse effects, drug interactions, drug allergy, medication use in elderly patients, use in patients with liver or kidney disease, or optimal use of therapeutic monitoring.

The Section also sees a number of ambulatory patients with possible exposures to various common chemical toxins. The Section is responsible for admitting patients with serious drug overdoses or chemical poisonings, or providing consultative services on such patients admitted to other services as requested. We are also closely involved in a variety of experimental protocols for evaluating new types of medications, especially antineoplastic agents.
